Functional Development Engineer – Hydrogen Energy Systems

About the role

Develop operating strategies and functional concepts for advanced energy systems and electrified powertrain applications. Define system functions, operating modes, and state‑machine logic based on system requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Specify sensor and actuator requirements to support functional implementation.
• Develop diagnostic, monitoring, fault‑management and safe‑state concepts.
• Support functional decomposition, interface definition and functional architecture development.
• Ensure requirements traceability and contribute to verification and validation planning.
• Collaborate with system, software and testing teams throughout the development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Master’s or engineering degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automotive or related field.
• Experience in functional development, systems engineering or control systems development.
• Knowledge of requirements engineering, specification development and system architecture definition.
• Familiarity with verification and validation processes, requirements traceability and functional safety (ISO 26262).
• Experience with MBSE/SysML methodologies and tools such as DOORS, Polarion or Codebeamer.

• MBSE/SysML modeling.

• Functional safety standards (ISO 26262).
• Failure analysis methods: FMEA, HAZOP.
• Fuel‑cell, hydrogen and battery energy system knowledge.
