Investment Associate, Project Development Fund

About the role

The Investment Associate will support Africa50’s Project Development Fund in sourcing, evaluating and executing transport and ICT infrastructure investments across Africa. Working under senior team members, the associate will help move projects from early screening through to financial close.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct sector, country and market research to build a pipeline of transport and ICT opportunities.
• Assess projects against Africa50’s mandate, impact goals and risk‑return criteria.
• Develop and maintain detailed project finance models, including traffic forecasts, revenue streams, capex, operating costs and financing structures.
• Design transaction structures for PPPs, concessions, asset‑recycling and other public‑private delivery models.
• Lead due‑diligence workstreams, coordinate with internal teams and external advisers, and track deliverables.
• Review key contracts and agreements, summarising commercial and risk aspects.
• Prepare opportunity notes, screening memoranda, investment committee papers, presentations and term sheets.
• Participate in negotiations with public authorities, sponsors, lenders, DFIs and other investors.

Required profile

• Strong analytical and quantitative abilities.
• Experience or strong interest in project finance and infrastructure investment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
