About the role

We are looking for a detail‑oriented Payroll Administrator to join our small payroll team on a 6‑8 month fixed‑term contract. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will support payroll processing for around 800 employees at our Leeds head office, ensuring accurate and timely payments.

Key responsibilities

  • Process monthly payrolls accurately and meet all deadlines.
  • Maintain the payroll processing system and records by gathering, calculating, and inputting data.
  • Process new starters, leavers and related adjustments.
  • Respond to employee queries on pay, deductions, pensions and general payroll matters.
  • Liaise with managers to ensure timesheets are logged and approved promptly.
  • Process sickness and other absences in line with company policies.
  • Manage employee changes including salary amendments, job titles and personal details.
  • Process overtime payments, payroll deductions and benefits in kind.
  • Handle statutory payments and support tax year‑end reporting (including P11Ds).
  • Provide administrative support for the Group Personal Pension Plan, including opt‑ins, opt‑outs and scheme changes.
  • Deliver general payroll administration support as required.

Required profile

  • At least one year of previous administrative experience in a payroll function.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise own initiative.
  • Practical and logical problem‑solver.
  • Resilient and comfortable working in a time‑sensitive environment.
  • Personable and able to communicate effectively with employees and managers.

Required skills

  • Microsoft Excel – strong lookup and data‑manipulation abilities.
  • Sage 50 Payroll (preferred, but not essential).
