Postdoctoral Fellow in African Digital Humanities

About the role

The Chair of Transitions at the Institute of Advanced Studies (UM6P) seeks a postdoctoral fellow to join the Kamara Portal project, a digital philology initiative focused on the works of Shaykh Musa Kamara. The fellow will help build a manuscript‑based digital research platform that supports multilingual editing and commentary.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a pilot multilingual digital edition and commentary interface for Kamara’s major historical work.
• Digitise and encode manuscript and print sources, creating metadata and digital assets.
• Conduct close philological analysis of texts while integrating digital inquiry methods.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to refine digital humanities workflows.
• Contribute to research outputs, publications, and presentations related to the project.

Required profile

• PhD in Digital Humanities, African Studies, Philology, History, or a closely related field.
• Experience with manuscript studies and textual criticism.
• Familiarity with digital research infrastructures and collaborative scholarly environments.
