V&V Engineer – Railway Signalling Systems

About the role

The V&V Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and coordinating verification and validation activities for the ALSTOM safety‑critical onboard signalling system used in ETCS/ERTMS railway applications. The role ensures that system requirements are correctly implemented, tested, validated, and compliant with railway safety standards throughout the V‑cycle development process.

Key responsibilities

• Review and analyze system, software, and hardware requirements to ensure they are clear, testable, traceable, and compliant with project standards.
• Participate in requirements and design reviews, maintaining requirement‑to‑test traceability.
• Define validation strategies, test plans, and procedures, and create functional, integration, regression, and system‑level test cases.
• Execute functional, integration, regression, and system‑level tests on EVC test benches and simulation environments.
• Analyze test results, identify anomalies, raise and track defects, and verify corrective actions.
• Produce validation reports, test documentation, and defect reports for project stakeholders.
• Lead and coordinate V&V activities across system, software, hardware, safety, and project teams.
• Monitor V&V progress, risks, and deliverables, supporting project reviews and technical decision‑making.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications, Railway Systems, or Embedded Systems engineering.
• Experience in verification and validation of safety‑critical railway signalling systems.
• Familiarity with the V‑cycle development process and safety standards for railway applications.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving abilities, and attention to detail.
• Proven leadership and coordination skills when working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to operate autonomously and manage stakeholders in a safety‑critical environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ERTMS/ETCS signalling systems.
• Understanding of European Vital Computer (EVC) architecture.
• Experience with V‑cycle development processes.
• Proficiency with requirement management tools such as DOORS.
• Use of test management and defect tracking tools.
• Working in Linux environments.
• Scripting and automation using Python.
• Configuration and test‑bench management.
