Assistant Professor – Chemical Thermodynamics

About the role

The Materials Science and Nano‑engineering (MSN) department at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University seeks an Assistant Professor to lead research and teaching in Chemical Thermodynamics. The position is permanent and based in the Energy Transition Cluster on the UM6P campus.

Key responsibilities

• Develop independent research programs in solution chemistry, focusing on thermodynamics and kinetics of gas absorption, desorption and reaction mechanisms in liquid media.
• Design and optimize advanced solvents for efficient separation and purification of industrial gases such as CO₂ and SO₂.
• Conduct solubility and speciation studies to understand gas‑liquid interactions.
• Apply electrochemical and (photo)catalytic approaches to convert captured gases into value‑added products.
• Model and simulate chemical equilibria and mass‑transfer processes to improve solution formulations.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the Energy Transition Cluster.
• Publish results in high‑impact journals and present at international conferences.
• Secure external research funding through competitive grant proposals.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in solution chemistry, chemical thermodynamics and gas‑liquid interactions.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemical Thermodynamics, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Strong publication record in solution chemistry or related fields.
• Experience in securing research grants.
• Ability to teach and supervise graduate students.

Required skills

• Expertise in chemical thermodynamics and kinetics.
• Proficiency in solution chemistry and solvent design.
• Modeling and simulation of chemical equilibria and mass‑transfer processes.
