Freelance Accountant for Travel Agency

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Accountant to manage the financial and accounting operations of our travel agency in Morocco. The role involves maintaining accurate records, handling client and supplier transactions, and supporting tax compliance while providing regular financial insights to management.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day bookkeeping, record and reconcile client and supplier payments, expenses, and other financial transactions.
• Prepare and issue client invoices, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on outstanding payments.
• Process supplier invoices for hotels, transportation, guides, excursions and other travel services, and reconcile supplier accounts.
• Track profitability of bookings, tours and travel packages, including commissions, discounts, refunds and cancellations.
• Perform regular bank and cash reconciliations, handle multi‑currency transactions when applicable.
• Prepare monthly financial reports covering revenue, costs, expenses, outstanding payments and profitability.
• Support cash‑flow monitoring, financial planning and preparation of VAT and other tax declarations in line with Moroccan regulations.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, banks and other financial service providers while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of accounting experience in Morocco, preferably within the travel, tourism or hospitality sector.
• Strong knowledge of Moroccan accounting and tax regulations, including VAT compliance.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and maintain high accuracy.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or similar).
