Postdoc in Animal Nutrition and Pastoralism

About the role

ASARI, the African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute of UM6P in Laayoune, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a PhD in Zootechny, Animal Nutrition or Pastoralism to join its Animal Sciences team. The work focuses on small ruminants (especially goats) and large livestock (camels), combining applied and fundamental research, proposal writing and peer-reviewed publications. Fieldwork with farmers is central.

Key responsibilities

• Set up dashboards and monitoring indicators for animal production, including camels and goats
• Support the production and management team in animal feeding and health monitoring
• Conduct forage analyses, formulate feed rations and run livestock feeding trials while monitoring animal nutritional status
• Develop new animal feeds from alternative feed resources
• Assist in designing training programmes and deliver modules to farmers, cooperatives and extension agents
• Collect, schedule, analyse and present data
• Co-supervise PhD and Master students and interns
• Manage projects (budget, materials, equipment, staff), write research proposals, reports and manuscripts for publication

Required profile

• PhD in zootechny or animal production
• Field-based livestock research experience
• Expertise in feed formulation, alternative feed resources, forage analyses, camel production, dairy management, milk and meat analyses or livestock systems
• Experience in multi-disciplinary teams and supervisory experience
• Ability to publish in high-impact journals and obtain external grant funding
• Fluent English; French and Arabic are a plus
