Postdoc in Biology of Microalgae and Cyanobacteria

About the role

MAScIR-UM6P is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join its interdisciplinary team studying the biology of microalgae and soil cyanobacteria. The project focuses on the ecological roles and potential applications of these microorganisms in agriculture, especially for improving soil health, nutrient cycling and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Study the biology, ecology and physiology of microalgae and cyanobacteria, their role in soil nutrient cycling, nitrogen fixation and carbon sequestration, and how they interact with soil and plants.
• Develop and optimise biofertilisers or biostimulants based on cyanobacteria and microalgae.
• Assess effects on crop growth, soil nutrients and plant-microbe interactions through laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments.
• Analyse data with statistical methods and publish results; present at conferences and work with industry partners.
• Collaborate with researchers in microbiology, soil science and agriculture, and mentor graduate students, interns or research assistants.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Microbiology, Environmental Biology, Soil Science or a related field.
• Strong background in microbial ecology, preferably with cyanobacteria or microalgae.
• Experience designing experiments and analysing data in lab and field settings.
• Familiarity with agricultural microbiology, plant-microbe interactions or biofertiliser development is highly desirable.
• Excellent written and oral communication, with a record of scientific publications.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, microbial cultivation and soil analysis methods is a plus.
