Postdoctoral Researcher in Modeling and Quantitative Analysis for Water Management

About the role

University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in modeling and quantitative analysis for efficient water management at the farm scale in semi-arid regions. The project aims to develop a scalable, cost-effective distributed water capture and storage solution that minimizes evaporation, using local storage facilities for stormflow water for irrigation. It combines numerical and analytical techniques, simulations and analysis of experimental data to adapt African agriculture to climate variability.

Key responsibilities

• Improve the coupled numerical model for surface and subsurface flows, using finite volume methods combined with physics-informed neural networks (PINNs)
• Develop numerical techniques and implement codes
• Collect data from Hydraulic Basin Agencies in Morocco
• Calibrate and validate the coupled numerical model
• Perform numerical simulations across different regions of Morocco and study the cost-effectiveness of the proposed water-storage solution
• Write and contribute to scientific articles and reports, and help develop research projects and funding applications

Required profile

• PhD in engineering, applied physics, applied mathematics or a related field
• Fluent oral and written English
• Enjoys collaborative work and interdisciplinary research projects
• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
