Professor – Green Chemistry & Biotechnology

About the role

The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SUSMAT‑RC) at UM6P is seeking a faculty member to lead research in Green Chemistry and Biotechnology. The successful candidate will develop and manage applied projects on biomass conversion, bio‑chemical catalysis, and the synthesis of new biobased monomers, polymers and materials.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all biotechnology and green chemistry activities within SUSMAT‑RC.
• Transfer knowledge on bio‑chemical conversion of biomass to internal researchers, external clients and collaborators.
• Collaborate with centre researchers to create new concepts for sustainable materials and their industrial applications.
• Design and teach advanced courses in biotechnology and green chemistry for Master’s and PhD students.
• Assist in delivering engineering solutions across technology readiness levels (TRL 3‑9) and support rapid translation to manufacturing.
• Work with faculty, companies and consortia to test and commercialise research innovations.
• Co‑author manuscripts, file patents and develop research proposals aligned with the centre’s strategic vision.
• Co‑supervise graduate students and post‑doctoral fellows, ensuring progress in R&D projects.
• Communicate research outcomes in English at conferences, meetings and workshops.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Green Chemistry, Biotechnology or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of post‑doctoral or professional experience with recognized expertise in biotechnology and green chemistry.
• Strong track record in organic synthesis, functionalisation and biotransformation of biobased chemicals.
• Experience teaching at the graduate level and supervising MSc/PhD students.
• Demonstrated ability to lead research programmes and manage projects from concept to implementation.
• Familiarity with the Moroccan/African innovation ecosystem and experience in entrepreneurship or start‑up creation is a strong asset.
