Professor of Geomechanics (Full‑time, Permanent)

About the role

The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University seeks a full‑time, permanent Professor in Geotechnics and Geomechanics to lead research and teaching in mining geomechanics.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and development in rock mechanics, slope stability, and ground control for underground and open‑pit mining.
• Develop and apply numerical models to predict mechanical behavior of rock masses under mining conditions.
• Design and perform laboratory and field experiments, including in‑situ geotechnical characterization.
• Integrate ESG considerations into geotechnical risk management and sustainable mining practices.
• Supervise graduate students and research assistants, and secure research funding through grants and industry partnerships.
• Publish findings in high‑impact journals and present at conferences.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in mineral engineering, geological engineering or a closely related field.
• Proven track record of obtaining research funding.
• Experience supervising graduate students and leading research teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
