Rust Software Engineer – Ground Control & Robotics

About the role

Our client, a Swiss technology company, develops advanced autonomous and drone systems for industrial environments. They need a hands‑on Rust Software Engineer to build and enhance ground‑control and operator‑facing applications, focusing on real‑time telemetry, visualization, and interactive UI.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement high‑performance ground‑control software primarily in Rust.
• Create responsive desktop GUIs and technical user interfaces for monitoring and controlling complex autonomous systems.
• Develop telemetry, real‑time data visualization, system status monitoring, and operator workflow features.
• Integrate software with drones, robotic platforms, embedded systems, and external services.
• Optimize performance, memory usage, multithreading, latency, and responsiveness.
• Contribute to video‑processing, streaming workflows, and overall software architecture.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Recent, production‑grade experience developing software in Rust.
• Strong background in building desktop applications, GUIs, or operator‑facing tools.
• Experience working in Linux environments and with real‑time, event‑driven systems.

Required skills

• Rust programming language.
• UI frameworks such as egui, Qt, GTK, Tauri or comparable technologies.
• Multithreading, memory management, performance optimisation, asynchronous programming.
• Real‑time data handling, telemetry, networking, streaming, event‑driven architectures.
• Knowledge of C++ for performance‑critical components.
• Familiarity with ROS2, MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, GStreamer, and robotics middleware.
