Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

As an Embedded Software Engineer at Harmattan AI you will join a fast‑growing team building autonomous UAV systems for defense applications. You will work on the core software stack, from operating‑system configuration to sensor driver integration, collaborating closely with algorithmic teams to deliver mission‑critical capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and maintain the embedded operating system (Embedded Linux or RTOS) on UAV platforms.
• Participate in the evolution of the embedded software architecture to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Develop and integrate sensor drivers and real‑time algorithms in partnership with algorithmic teams.
• Improve and maintain telemetry and communication subsystems for drones.
• Enforce coding standards and best practices across the organization.
• Contribute to in‑house tooling that accelerates software development.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, high‑performance fielded systems.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in embedded software development, preferably in robotics, aerospace or defense.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work autonomously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C/C++ (Python a plus).
• Hands‑on experience with Embedded Linux or RTOS and multi‑threaded/multi‑process environments.
• Sensor driver development and data‑sheet interpretation.
• Use of debugging tools such as software debuggers, oscilloscopes and logic analysers.
• Familiarity with build systems and version control (Git).
• Understanding of firmware architecture and low‑level programming.
