Safety N2 Diagnostic Calibration Engineer

About the role

The Safety N2 Diagnostic Calibration Engineer will validate Safety Level 2 strategies for powertrain control units, ensuring robust diagnostic and fault‑detection capabilities across engine and powertrain components. You will work within multidisciplinary project teams to support the development of safe, reliable vehicle systems.

Key responsibilities

• Validate and configure Safety Level N2 functions and related diagnostic features for powertrain control units.
• Process and analyse fault‑detection (PIV) results and data acquired from validation tests and vehicle missions using specialised engineering tools.
• Manage the engine safety freeze process and contribute to root‑cause investigations of DTCs and OBD fault codes.
• Coordinate internally to plan, prioritise and execute safety and diagnostics deliverables.
• Support documentation and reporting of validation activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, powertrain architecture and automotive diagnostics.
• Understanding of Safety Level 2 requirements and OBD fault‑code handling.
• Category B driving licence; AW18 certification is a plus.

Required skills

• MATLAB / Simulink (reading and understanding models, Model‑Based Design, Stateflow).
• Diagnostic tools: INCA, MDA, CRETA, Concerto.
• CAN communication analysis with CANalyzer.
