Aerodynamic Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is building autonomous, scalable defense systems and is looking for an Aerodynamic Engineer to shape the flight physics of its platforms. You will work across the full design‑to‑validation loop, collaborating closely with Mechanical and GNC teams.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to aerodynamic layout and analysis of fixed‑wing, multicopter, and eVTOL configurations using low‑fidelity tools (XFoil, OpenVSP, AVL) and higher‑fidelity CFD as needed.
• Support flight‑test and wind‑tunnel campaigns by defining test cards, instrumenting prototypes, and validating simulation predictions.
• Develop Python scripts to automate analysis workflows, process test/flight data, and integrate design and simulation tools.
• Generate and maintain aerodynamic databases and stability derivatives for GNC control‑law development and autopilot tuning.
• Collaborate with Mechanical and GNC teams to ensure aerodynamic choices are feasible, stable, and testable.

Required profile

• B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong grasp of aerodynamic fundamentals (lift, drag, stability) and flight dynamics.
• Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) for data processing and automation.
• Hands‑on experience with either aerodynamic simulation (CFD, XFoil, OpenVSP, AVL) or physical testing (wind tunnel, flight test).
• Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or CATIA to understand geometry constraints.
• Pragmatic, hands‑on mindset willing to move across design, simulation, and testing stages.
• Nice‑to‑have: French language skills, RC aircraft/drones experience, propeller design, aeroacoustics.
