About the role

The African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR) at UM6P seeks an Assistant Professor to lead research integrating satellite observations, atmospheric models, and ground‑based measurements. The position focuses on air quality, atmospheric composition, greenhouse gases, and climate studies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an independent research program in data assimilation, satellite remote sensing, and atmospheric modelling.
• Teach graduate‑level courses related to remote sensing, atmospheric science, data assimilation, or atmospheric modelling.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD students, guiding their research projects.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
• Establish national and international collaborations and secure competitive research funding.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Remote Sensing, Meteorology, Environmental Science, Earth System Science, or a closely related field.
• Strong research record in data assimilation, satellite remote sensing, or atmospheric modelling.
• Demonstrated record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience in university‑level teaching and student supervision (preferred).
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Required skills

• Scientific programming in Python, R, Fortran, MATLAB or similar languages.
• Knowledge of data assimilation methods (variational, ensemble, Kalman filter, hybrid).
• Experience with satellite remote sensing of atmospheric composition, air quality, or greenhouse gases.
• Proficiency in atmospheric or chemical transport modelling and inverse modelling.
