Chief Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is building next‑generation autonomous defense systems. As Chief Engineer you will own the architecture, definition and implementation of a robotic system from concept through field deployment, working closely with project managers and technical leads.

Key responsibilities

• Translate system requirements into robust architecture solutions and lead cross‑functional design across mechanical, electrical, software, GNC and ML teams.
• Conduct feasibility studies, trade‑off analyses and system‑level simulations to guide technical choices.
• Oversee integration, prototyping and validation to ensure performance, robustness and reliability.
• Drive design and architecture reviews, maintaining consistency between requirements, design and testing.
• Implement processes to improve requirements traceability, documentation and validation workflows.

Required profile

• 10+ years of system engineering experience in robotics, aerospace or defense.
• MSc in Engineering (PhD a plus); proven track record leading full system lifecycles from concept to validation.
• Strong analytical mindset, rigorous and mission‑driven, with excellent communication and documentation skills.

Required skills

• System architecture and requirements engineering.
• Mechanical, electrical and embedded systems knowledge.
• Guidance, navigation and control (GNC) and machine learning.
• Trade‑off analysis and system‑level simulation.
• Experience with UAS or defense systems (bonus).
