Deputy Laboratory Manager – Operations

About the role

SGS is seeking a Deputy Laboratory Manager to support daily laboratory operations and ensure seamless coordination with inspection and operational teams. This leadership development role combines operational oversight with continuous improvement, preparing the incumbent for broader management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily laboratory operations and analytical activities.
• Coordinate effectively with inspection, cargo, and operational teams.
• Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Quality, ISO/IEC 17025, and HSE standards.
• Support the Laboratory Manager to maintain operational continuity.
• Supervise, coach, and develop laboratory personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
• 5–8 years of experience in petroleum, petrochemical, or Oil & Gas laboratory testing.
• 2–3 years of supervisory experience in a senior laboratory role.
• Strong knowledge of petroleum test methods, ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, and QA/QC practices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with petroleum laboratory instrumentation and testing techniques.
• Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and maintaining data integrity.
• Strong understanding of laboratory operations, quality management, and process improvement.
• Ability to coordinate with operations, inspectors, and stakeholders.
