Director, Regulated Programmes

About the role

The Director, Regulated Programmes will lead the global Regulated Programmes team, overseeing medical and construction risk to ensure safe, high‑quality, compliant delivery of programmes worldwide. Reporting to the Director, Quality and Impact, this senior position shapes the evidence‑based, accountability agenda across country offices.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the global Regulated Programmes team, setting priorities and fostering an inclusive, high‑performing culture.
• Develop and implement risk‑management strategies for medical and construction programmes, ensuring proactive identification, mitigation, monitoring and control of risks.
• Lead medical incident management and escalation, coordinating with senior leadership, audit & risk committees, donors and regulators.
• Ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements, including maintaining SCI licences for MHRA, WDA(H) and Home Office controlled drugs.
• Maintain and regularly review programme risk registers, aligning mitigations with the SCARF framework and cross‑functional inputs.
• Proactively manage emerging risks at country‑office level, escalating significant exposures in line with enterprise risk appetite.

Required profile

• Extensive senior leadership experience managing multiple teams (minimum 8 direct reports) in an international NGO or similar environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in medical and construction programme risk, regulatory compliance and incident management.
• Strong knowledge of UK regulatory bodies (MHRA, Home Office, Charity Commission) and SCI licensing processes.
• Ability to travel up to 20% internationally and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders.
• Right to work in the UK for the duration of employment.
