Expert on debt sustainability

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) seeks an Expert on Debt Sustainability to support its North Africa office in Rabat. The role will contribute to the region’s structural transformation by advising governments on public debt management and fiscal sustainability aligned with development priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse public debt portfolios and assess macro‑fiscal sustainability for member states.
• Provide policy recommendations to improve debt management practices.
• Support the design and implementation of debt sustainability frameworks.
• Collaborate with regional stakeholders, including ministries of finance and development partners.
• Prepare briefing notes, reports, and presentations for senior UN officials.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, finance, public policy or a related field.
• Experience working on public debt management or fiscal policy in African contexts.
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
