About the role

The British Council is seeking a senior market leader for its English & Examinations Strategic Business Unit. You will shape and execute the market’s strategic plan, own the P&L, and drive sustainable commercial growth across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the country’s E&E business plan aligned with global strategy.
• Own market P&L performance, identify revenue opportunities and allocate resources to meet financial targets.
• Lead large, high‑performing teams and foster an inclusive, accountable culture.
• Oversee business development and partnership initiatives to build long‑term revenue streams.
• Collaborate with Proposition, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Finance, People and Professional Services to translate strategy into market success.
• Represent the British Council with customers, strategic partners, government stakeholders and other key decision‑makers.
• Use data, market intelligence and insight to monitor performance, manage risk and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a commercial or market‑focused role.
• Strong track record of P&L ownership and delivering growth targets.
• Excellent cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder‑influence skills.
• Ability to inspire teams, promote an inclusive culture and drive results in a matrix environment.
