Instructional Designer

About the role

The Instructional Designer partners with Subject Matter Experts to create high‑quality, fully accessible online courses for University of the People. Using proven adult‑learning methods and modern tools, you will design engaging, interactive content that aligns with university standards.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to design and develop online courses.
• Apply instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation best practices.
• Review course materials for copyright compliance and ADA/Section 508 accessibility.
• Work with the Course Developer team to produce accessible, interactive content elements.
• Integrate appropriate teaching and learning theory and distance‑learning principles.
• Select instructional materials and design learning activities for an interactive online environment.
• Guide the creation of effective assessments of student learning.
• Identify high‑quality Open Educational Resources (OER) and contribute to curricular mapping.
• Track project progress and ensure timely delivery of course components.

Required profile

• Experience collaborating with faculty or Subject Matter Experts on course design.
• Strong understanding of adult‑learning (andragogical) principles.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (ADA, Section 508).
• Ability to work independently in a remote, fast‑paced environment.
