Journalist for English Edition – Full‑time

About the role

Assahifa English is looking for a full‑time journalist to produce original English‑language news for its Rabat‑based edition. The role involves reporting on a wide range of Moroccan topics and delivering engaging stories to an international audience.

Key responsibilities

• Write and edit news stories, features, interviews and investigations in English.
• Cover political, economic, social, cultural and institutional developments across Morocco.
• Produce original reporting that explains local issues for global readers.
• Edit and adapt content from the Arabic edition without literal translation.
• Conduct interviews with officials, experts, diplomats and business leaders.
• Fact‑check sources, figures and documents before publication.
• Monitor international media for Morocco‑related developments.
• Propose story ideas and editorial angles consistent with the newspaper’s standards.
• Collaborate with editors, photographers, video journalists and the digital team.
• Travel within Morocco or abroad for reporting assignments and respond quickly to breaking news.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of professional journalism experience, preferably in reporting or digital news.
• Excellent written and spoken English with a publication‑ready style.
• Strong command of Arabic; French is an asset.
• Deep understanding of Moroccan public affairs, politics, economy and society.
• Ability to explain local developments to readers unfamiliar with the context.
• Proven research, fact‑checking and interviewing skills.
• Capacity to work independently, exercise sound editorial judgment and meet tight deadlines.
• Commitment to accuracy, fairness, editorial independence and journalistic ethics.
• Residence in Rabat or ability to work regularly from the Rabat office.
