Lead Secondary Design Engineer – High Voltage Substation

About the role

The Lead Secondary Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration and reliability of control, protection, electrical distribution, telecom and monitoring systems for high‑voltage substations. This senior position ensures that all design work meets budget, schedule and quality expectations while supporting installation, operation and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and integrate control, protection, electrical distribution, telecom and monitoring systems for HV substations.
• Produce single‑line diagrams, schematic diagrams, protection schemes, auxiliary service designs, interlocking and communication/network layouts.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide technical support to customers and project teams.
• Lead design reviews, gate reviews and ensure compliance with quality processes and GE policies.
• Support procurement of equipment and manage engineering subcontractors on specific work packages.
• Oversee commissioning and testing of low‑voltage systems.
• Maintain design management tools, document control and KPI tracking.
• Travel up to 20% across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and other regions as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 5 years of high‑voltage design engineering experience in project/EPC environments (transmission, distribution, STATCOM, HV substations).
• Strong oral and written English communication skills.
• Knowledge of project organization, engineering processes and design standards for HV substations.
• Proven ability to solve technical problems and drive continuous improvement.
