Mechanical Engineer – UAV Airframe Design

About the role

Harmattan AI is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Airframe team and design UAV platforms and subsystems. You will own projects from concept through production, ensuring performance, reliability and manufacturability in a fast‑paced, autonomous defence environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and prototype UAV airframes and complex mechanical subsystems, balancing durability, efficiency and performance.
• Manage system‑level constraints such as thermal management, mass budget, cost and environmental sealing (IP ratings).
• Collaborate with electrical, software and industrialisation teams to integrate sensors, payloads and electronics.
• Conduct stress and failure analysis, develop test benches, calculation sheets or scripts to validate designs for extreme environments.
• Oversee manufacturing by working directly with suppliers and external manufacturers, focusing on plastic injection moulding and precision machining.
• Maintain accurate 2D/3D documentation and the “source of truth” in Confluence.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience designing and prototyping mechanical systems, preferably for UAVs, robotics or defence.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including high‑precision machining and plastic injection moulding.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documenting technical concepts and leading cross‑functional discussions.
