About the role
The Payroll Specialist ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role works closely with HR and Finance to guarantee data integrity and resolve payroll inquiries.
Key responsibilities
- Process bi‑weekly, semi‑monthly, or monthly payroll for salaried and hourly staff.
- Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions accurately.
- Administer payroll changes such as new hires, terminations, promotions, and pay adjustments.
- Maintain and reconcile payroll records and generate reports.
- Ensure compliance with all payroll laws and tax regulations.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and year‑end forms (e.g., W‑2s).
- Coordinate benefits deductions, garnishments, and retirement contributions.
- Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Support audits by providing required payroll documentation.
Required profile
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred).
- 2+ years of payroll processing experience.
- Knowledge of payroll laws, taxes, and wage‑and‑hour regulations.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus.
Required skills
- Experience with payroll software such as ADP, Paychex, or Workday.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems.
