Postdoctoral Researcher in Photovoltaic System Performance

About the role

GSMI is looking for a PhD in energy to join its research team as a postdoctoral researcher. The work studies the performance of photovoltaic solar panels installed on post-mining sites, in relation to microclimatic variations caused by local vegetation. The goal is to analyse vegetation-climate-technology interactions to optimise energy yield in environments subject to climatic stress. The position lasts 12 months and is renewable.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor PV panels for temperature, efficiency and dust accumulation.
• Use environmental sensors and thermal cameras (UAV/IR).
• Compare PV configurations with and without vegetation.
• Study dust deposition and its impact on energy performance.
• Analyse meteorological, soil and energy production data.
• Contribute to modelling PV performance under local conditions.
• Take part in writing scientific and technical deliverables and document experimental results.
• Work closely with project partners.

Required profile

• PhD in solar energy, electrical engineering or environmental sciences.
• Experience processing environmental data (Python, R, MATLAB).
• Interest in integrated approaches combining energy, environment and biodiversity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and French.

Required skills

• Proficiency in PV systems, instrumentation and performance measurement.
• UAV data analysis, thermography and field measurements.
