Postdoctoral Researcher – Multimodal Crop Analysis & Fertilizer Optimization

About the role

The Centre of Computing (COLCOM) at UM6P seeks a postdoctoral researcher to design farmer‑centric systems that combine multi‑modal remote sensing, soil and phenology data. The aim is to deliver accurate crop classification and customized fertilizer recommendations for sustainable agriculture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement data‑fusion pipelines integrating optical, SAR, soil and phenology datasets.
• Design and train machine‑learning / deep‑learning models for spatio‑temporal crop analysis.
• Produce reproducible research outputs and maintain version‑controlled code bases.
• Collaborate with agronomists, field teams and industry partners to translate models into actionable recommendations.
• Document methods, write scientific papers and present findings at conferences.

Required profile

• PhD (awarded or defended before start) in Computer Science, Remote‑Sensing, Geoinformatics, Agricultural Data Science or a related discipline.
• Strong publication record in remote‑sensing imagery, time‑series analysis or ML/DL for spatio‑temporal data.
• Ability to work independently and produce reproducible research.
• Excellent written and spoken English; French or Arabic is a plus for local engagement.

Required skills

• Advanced Python programming.
• Experience with ML/DL frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Proficiency with geospatial libraries (rasterio, GDAL) and satellite platforms (Sentinel, Landsat, Google Earth Engine).
• Knowledge of multimodal data fusion, time‑series analysis, and reproducible pipeline development.
