Pricing Actuary

About the role

As a Pricing Actuary at Africa Specialty Risks, you will lead the development and refinement of pricing models that support the company’s growth across Africa and the Middle East. You will work closely with underwriting, data, and management teams to ensure pricing strategies are data‑driven, automated, and aligned with commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and review account‑level pricing, benchmark analyses, rate‑change reviews, and portfolio monitoring.
• Recalibrate pricing models using claims and exposure data, improving model parameters and factors.
• Enhance pricing methodologies to meet best‑practice standards and underwriter needs.
• Drive automation and scalability, transitioning from Excel tools to AI‑powered platforms.
• Deliver regular portfolio performance insights and coordinate actions with underwriting and management.
• Partner with the data team to ensure high‑quality data capture for pricing and reporting.
• Provide technical guidance to underwriters on model usage.

Required profile

• BSc degree or higher in a numerical discipline (e.g., Actuarial Science).
• 5+ years of actuarial experience, progressing toward FIA or equivalent qualification.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a track record of delivering automated solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel modeling and controls.
• Proficiency in SQL.
• Proficiency in Python or a similar programming language.
• Experience with VBA, R, and Power BI (desirable).
