Professor in Green Chemistry and Biotechnology

About the role

The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat-RC) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is inviting applications for a faculty position in Green Chemistry and Biotechnology. The successful candidate will plan, develop and carry out applied research on the conversion and bioprocessing of biomass using biochemical catalysis and green chemistry pathways, synthesizing new biobased monomers, polymers and materials. A minimum of 5 years of experience after the PhD is required.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of biotechnology and green chemistry within SusMat-RC.
• Share knowledge and findings on biochemical conversion of biomass with researchers, external clients and collaborators.
• Collaborate with SusMat-RC researchers on new concepts for sustainable materials and their industrial applications.
• Design and teach advanced courses in biotechnology and green chemistry for Master and PhD students.
• Help turn applied research into engineering solutions across the technology readiness levels leading to development and manufacturing.
• Work with universities, companies and consortia to test and commercialize research innovations.
• Contribute to manuscripts, patents and research proposals, and help manage the center.
• Co-supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
• Communicate fluently in English and French, representing the center at conferences and workshops.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Green Chemistry, Biotechnology or a closely related field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience, including postdoctoral work, with recognized expertise in biotechnology and green chemistry; industrial experience is a strong asset.
• Good experience supervising M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.
• Fluent in English and French, spoken and written.

Required skills

• Demonstrated skills in organic synthesis, functionalization and biotransformation of biobased chemicals and monomers, and/or spectroscopic and physico-chemical characterization.
• Experience in (bio)polymer chemistry and processing of (bio)polymers and (bio)composites.
• Ability to develop and lead research programs, and to connect research to teaching.
• Leadership and project management skills, and evidence of collaboration with national and international institutions.
• Entrepreneurial experience or participation in entrepreneurial programs is a strong asset.
