Propulsion Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is building autonomous defence systems and needs a Propulsion Engineer to accelerate the development of motor test benches and the associated software tools. You will work in a small, high‑impact team that bridges Python development with physical hardware testing, delivering data‑driven insights for internal stakeholders and manufacturers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain a hardware motor test bench for measuring motor, propeller and controller performance.
• Develop and enhance internal Python tools for test‑bench operation, data collection and visualisation.
• Create scripts to calculate thrust requirements and analyse large data sets across hardware configurations.
• Execute motor tests, upload results to the cloud platform and author technical reports.
• Participate in design reviews for new platforms, providing propulsion expertise to meet range and autonomy goals.
• Ensure visualisation tools are robust, user‑friendly and accessible to the broader team.

Required profile

• Master’s (or equivalent) degree in Mechatronics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related field; strong portfolio may substitute.
• Hands‑on experience with electric propulsion systems or UAV environments.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and deliver critical features within the first 90 days.
• Critical thinker who anticipates edge cases and bottlenecks.
• Excellent communication skills for guiding R&D teams and interacting with manufacturers.
