Senior Data Governance Officer

About the role

The Senior Data Governance Officer will lead the design, implementation and enforcement of IFRC’s data governance framework. Reporting to the AI & Data unit, the role ensures that data across the organization is managed securely, ethically and in line with global regulations, supporting the Digital Transformation Department’s mission to enable data‑driven humanitarian services.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and communicate data governance policies, standards and procedures.
• Define and manage data governance structures, roles and responsibilities across IFRC units.
• Ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and ethical guidelines.
• Monitor and improve data quality, security and lifecycle management on the organization’s data platform.
• Collaborate with the Data Protection Office, AI initiatives, external experts, vendors and consultants to align governance with AI and analytics projects.
• Provide guidance and training to staff to foster a culture of data responsibility.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in data governance, data management or related fields.
• Deep knowledge of international data protection regulations and ethical data use.
• Experience working in large, multi‑national or humanitarian organizations is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
