Senior Data Governance Officer

About the role

The Senior Data Governance Officer will lead the development, implementation and enforcement of IFRC's data governance framework. Reporting to the AI & Data Management unit, the role ensures data is managed securely, ethically and in line with global regulations while supporting the humanitarian mission of the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain data governance policies, standards and procedures.
• Coordinate data governance structures, roles and responsibilities across the IFRC Secretariat and its 191 National Society members.
• Monitor compliance with data protection regulations and IFRC’s ethical guidelines.
• Improve data quality, security and lifecycle management for all data products.
• Collaborate with internal AI and data experts, external suppliers, academia and private‑sector partners on data‑related initiatives.
• Provide guidance and oversight to data professionals in various departments.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in data governance, data management or related fields.
• Strong understanding of global data protection regulations and ethical data use.
• Proven ability to develop and enforce governance frameworks in large, complex organizations.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices.
• Familiarity with data quality, security and lifecycle management concepts.
• Experience working with AI and data platforms.
