Underwriting Portfolio Analyst

About the role

As an Underwriting Portfolio Analyst you will support Africa Specialty Risks’ first line of defence in underwriting portfolio management. Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, you will provide performance analysis, portfolio optimisation and forward‑looking insight to guide strategic underwriting decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance the underwriting reporting suite, ensuring accurate and timely performance monitoring.
• Develop, update and create Excel‑based Management Information (MI) reports and dashboards to meet evolving business needs.
• Analyse portfolio trends, exposure and profitability, and communicate findings to senior underwriting stakeholders.
• Support the Chief Underwriting Officer with data‑driven insights for strategic decision‑making.
• Influence and constructively challenge underwriting teams, providing recommendations based on analytical results.
• Lead, build and manage a high‑performing team responsible for portfolio reporting and analysis.

Required profile

• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex underwriting data.
• Proven leadership capability and experience influencing senior stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills to present insights clearly to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work autonomously while collaborating across underwriting functions.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting.
