Head of English & EAL

About the role

The Khalil Gibran School Rabat is seeking a dynamic Head of English & EAL to lead its English Language, English Literature and English as an Additional Language provision. Reporting to senior leadership, the role will shape curriculum delivery from Cambridge IGCSE through A Level and ensure inclusive support for learners whose first language is not English. The appointment starts in August 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for English and EAL across the school.
• Lead, manage and develop a team of English and EAL teachers, including coaching, appraisal and professional development.
• Design and oversee a coherent Cambridge English curriculum up to IGCSE and A Level.
• Develop and maintain a structured EAL provision with clear entry, support and exit pathways.
• Model excellent classroom practice and uphold high standards of teaching and learning.
• Monitor pupil progress, analyse data and drive interventions to raise attainment at IGCSE and A Level.
• Lead EAL assessment, tracking and reporting of English language proficiency.
• Promote whole‑school literacy, including reading, writing and oracy.
• Collaborate with Admissions and senior leaders to support induction and transition for EAL learners.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering the Cambridge curriculum (IGCSE and A Level) in English.
• Demonstrated leadership of English and EAL teams in an international school setting.
• Strong data‑driven approach to monitoring progress and implementing interventions.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to model best practice in the classroom.
• Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.
