Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate Modeling & Uncertainty Quantification

About the role

The International Water Research Institute (IWRI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University seeks a postdoctoral researcher to advance climate modeling and uncertainty quantification for extreme precipitation in data‑scarce regions, with a focus on Morocco. The project will evaluate uncertainties across a hierarchy of climate models, from global to convection‑permitting scales.

Key responsibilities

• Systematically quantify and interpret uncertainties in climate model simulations of extreme precipitation.
• Analyze outputs from Global Climate Models (GCMs) and Regional Climate Models (RCMs) and assess their sensitivity to boundary conditions.
• Develop methodologies to downscale climate information to finer spatial resolutions.
• Collaborate with IWRI researchers and external partners to integrate findings into water resources management frameworks.
• Prepare scientific reports, peer‑reviewed publications, and present results at conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in atmospheric science, climate science, hydrology, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in climate modeling and experience with multi‑scale model hierarchies.
• Demonstrated ability to work with limited observational data and heterogeneous monitoring networks.
• Excellent analytical and scientific writing skills.
