Robotics & Mechatronics Scientist

About the role

The Robotics & Mechatronics Research Scientist will lead the creation of next‑generation robotic platforms for non‑destructive testing, industrial inspection and advanced manufacturing. Working within ACME’s state‑of‑the‑art laboratory, the scientist will translate cutting‑edge research into autonomous and semi‑autonomous solutions for aerospace, energy, mining, rail and manufacturing sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative robotic and mechatronic systems for industrial applications.
• Integrate robotics, sensors, machine vision and AI into intelligent automation solutions.
• Create and validate robotic workcells for manufacturing, inspection and assembly.
• Develop control algorithms, motion‑control strategies and autonomous operation software.
• Implement embedded and real‑time control software for robotic platforms.
• Integrate sensors, actuators and electronic subsystems into mechatronic designs.
• Perform simulation, modelling and digital‑twin development to optimise performance.
• Test, validate and optimise robotic solutions in real‑world environments.
• Collaborate with additive manufacturing, inspection and digital manufacturing teams on multidisciplinary projects.
• Prepare technical documentation, research reports and scientific publications.
• Supervise graduate students, interns and junior engineers.
• Partner with industry to transfer research outcomes into commercial applications.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with at least 10 years of experience, or PhD with at least 4 years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Strong scientific publication record (preferred).
• Experience in industrial R&D environments and collaborative projects with industry.
