Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Quality

About the role

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), located in Benguerir, Morocco, is hiring an Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Quality for its African Research Centre on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR). The centre advances research, capacity building and technology transfer in air quality, atmospheric chemistry and climate, and works with national and international partners on topics such as industrial emissions, urban pollution and climate change.

The successful candidate will work with faculty, students, postdoctoral researchers and international collaborators on an independent research programme covering tropospheric chemistry, atmospheric composition, air quality and climate, combining laboratory measurements, in-situ observations, remote sensing and atmospheric modelling. The candidate will also take part in field campaigns and the operation of atmospheric instrumentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead research on tropospheric chemistry, air quality and atmospheric composition.
• Conduct and coordinate laboratory, field, remote-sensing and modelling activities.
• Operate, maintain and calibrate atmospheric measurement systems and ensure high-quality data.
• Develop approaches for pollutant characterization, transformation, mitigation and sustainable management.
• Integrate and analyse atmospheric datasets from multiple instruments and models.
• Develop and lead national and international research projects and attract external funding to UM6P.
• Establish collaborations with academic, industrial, governmental and international partners.
• Supervise Master's and Ph.D. students and contribute to research-led teaching.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Atmospheric Chemistry, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in data processing and integration of multi-instrument datasets.
• Experience in developing and securing competitive research funding, as project coordinator or equivalent.
• Experience supervising students and early-career researchers.
• A strong record of scientific publications and international collaboration.
• Interest in air-quality and atmospheric chemistry challenges in Africa and the Mediterranean region.
