Assistant Professor in Materials, Electrochemistry and Corrosion Science

About the role

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, Morocco, is recruiting a confirmed Assistant Professor (M/F) in materials, electrochemistry and corrosion science for its Materials Science and Nano-engineering (MSN) department. The position is permanent and sits within the Smart and Functional Materials cluster, led by Prof. Johan Jacquemin. The holder works at the interface of basic research and the industrial world, with experience leading collaborative projects and supervising undergraduates and PhDs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and maintain research programmes on electrochemical reactions, material structure and degradation, surface and interface phenomena, and sustainable corrosion protection.
• Develop in-situ and operando characterisation techniques for corrosion monitoring and evaluate material performance in energy, chemistry, automotive and other sectors.
• Build national, African and international networks and coordinate industrial collaborations.
• Publish high-quality papers, obtain patents and transfer technology; attract external funding through grants and partnerships.
• Teach graduate courses in electrochemistry and materials science, including advanced Master's modules, and deliver 100 hours of teaching per year across UM6P programmes.
• Supervise and co-supervise PhD and Master theses and lead interdisciplinary projects.

Required profile

• Confirmed professor with at least 5 years of research experience after a PhD in materials, electrochemistry or corrosion science.
• Graduate-level teaching experience in corrosion or related subjects and experience synthesising and characterising materials for corrosion science.
• Track record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications and patents, and evidence of independent research capability.
• Ability to attract external funding and collaborate with industry and government partners.
• Strong French and English, leadership and project management skills, and experience supervising students.
