Steering Control Systems & Software Engineer

About the role

AVL is looking for a Steering Control Systems & Software Engineer to analyze and refine requirements and develop software for automotive steering systems such as EPS and steer-by-wire. The role covers requirements definition, algorithm development, model-based design, testing and software integration on steering ECUs.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and refine system and software requirements for steering systems, ensuring functional consistency and traceability.
• Define and document functional requirements, including control strategies, operating modes, performance targets and safety constraints.
• Design functional architectures, including interfaces, signals and data flows.
• Develop and optimize steering control algorithms using Model-Based Design with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow.
• Contribute to steering functions such as steering assistance, torque control, position control, steering feel and fault management.
• Perform model verification and validation, including static analysis and Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) testing.
• Generate embedded C code compliant with standards such as MISRA-C, and run Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) tests.
• Support software integration and validation on steering ECUs, including debugging and root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with system, software, hardware and validation teams throughout the V-cycle.

Required profile

• Master's degree or engineering degree in Embedded Systems, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in automotive system and/or software development, including hands-on experience with steering systems (EPS, Steer-by-Wire or similar).
• Mandatory experience in steering control functions, control algorithms or system architecture.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work autonomously; excellent communication in French and English.

Required skills

• Model-Based Design with MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow.
• Embedded C code generation and MiL/SiL testing.
• Knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD and ISO 26262 is an asset.
• Technical coordination, customer interaction or technical leadership experience is an asset.
