Automation Specialist

About the role

APM Terminals is seeking an Automation Specialist to support the real‑time operation of its semi‑automated container terminal. You will work in a 24/7 Integrated Operations Center, ensuring that automation and control systems run smoothly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Provide real‑time automation and control system support during rotational shifts.
• Monitor system alarms, interfaces, and automated process flows for quay cranes, automated stacking cranes, and shuttle carriers.
• Perform Level 1 troubleshooting of automation, control, and software issues, escalating to higher levels when needed.
• Detect, diagnose, and support resolution of control system anomalies and software faults to restore system availability.
• Support the terminal Incident Response Process and coordinate with Operations, Asset Management, and IT during incidents.
• Conduct structured shift handovers and maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation.

Required profile

• Continuous‑improvement mindset with curiosity about how work gets done.
• Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Required skills

• Experience with automation control systems used in port terminals.
• Ability to perform Level 1 troubleshooting of control and software issues.
• Familiarity with monitoring alarms and interfaces for quay cranes, stacking cranes, and shuttle carriers.
• Incident response and coordination skills in a high‑availability environment.
