Debt Sustainability Expert – UNV Assignment

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Sub‑Regional Office for North Africa is seeking an Associate Researcher to act as a Debt Sustainability Expert. The role supports the project “Enhancing Fiscal Resilience and Sustainable Finance in Africa” by providing research, coordination, and communication assistance to improve public debt management across member states.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on public debt management practices, fiscal policy, and macro‑fiscal sustainability.
• Assist in organizing national and regional meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
• Document project activities, prepare reports, and develop scenario analyses and guidelines for debt management.
• Coordinate logistical aspects of events and ensure effective information flow between stakeholders.
• Support the Project Coordinator in monitoring progress and communicating results to member states.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, finance, public policy or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience or strong academic background in public debt management, fiscal policy, or macro‑economic analysis.
• Familiarity with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate‑related financing frameworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively with international teams and government officials.
