Driveability Calibration Engineer

About the role

AVL is looking for a Driveability Calibration Engineer to develop and calibrate engine, transmission and vehicle control systems so that vehicles respond smoothly under all driving conditions. The role involves vehicle testing and data analysis, working closely with powertrain, calibration and software teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and calibrate engine, transmission and vehicle control systems to improve drivability.
• Optimise vehicle response for start-up, idle, acceleration, deceleration and gear shifts.
• Conduct road, track and dyno tests and analyse the resulting data.
• Resolve issues such as hesitation, jerking or poor throttle response.
• Collaborate with powertrain, calibration and software teams to ensure smooth system integration.
• Validate customer-oriented features such as comfort, smoothness and responsiveness.

Required profile

• General knowledge of ICE, xEV, infotainment and ADAS vehicles.
• Knowledge of automotive electrical architectures and ability to read electrical schematics.
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as INCA, CANalyzer, Diagalyser and IDVH.
• Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, powertrain systems and control strategies.
• Good problem-solving and driving evaluation skills, with strong analytical skills.

Required skills

• Experience with calibration tools such as INCA and CANape.
• Data analysis and knowledge of tools such as DOTI, PLM, CESARE, CVMP and Redbent.
