Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

Harmattan AI is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join its UAV development team. You will help design and implement software architectures, set up development environments, and integrate drivers and algorithms for sensors and systems. The role works closely with algorithmic teams to deliver high‑performance, mission‑critical drone solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and maintain the operating system (Embedded Linux or RTOS) for UAV platforms.
• Participate in improving embedded software architecture for scalability and reliability.
• Develop sensor drivers and integrate online algorithms in collaboration with algorithmic teams.
• Enhance and maintain telemetry systems for drones.
• Uphold strong coding standards and best practices across the organization.
• Collaborate on in‑house tool development to accelerate software delivery.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust field‑deployable systems.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field.
• Extensive experience in embedded software development, preferably in robotics, aerospace or defense.
• Proven ability to work autonomously and solve complex technical challenges.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
• Full commitment to the company’s mission and projects.

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in C and C++.
• Experience with Python (optional).
• Hands‑on experience with Embedded Linux or RTOS and multi‑threaded/multi‑process systems.
• Development of sensor drivers and interpretation of datasheets.
• Use of debugging tools such as software debuggers, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Familiarity with build systems and version control (Git).
• Understanding of firmware architecture and low‑level programming.
