Laboratory Technical & Project Manager

About the role

SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technical & Project Manager to lead the setup and operation of its Energy & Chemicals laboratory in Morocco. The role combines technical leadership, project oversight, and compliance management to ensure high‑quality analytical services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for all laboratory activities within the Energy & Chemicals Business Unit in Morocco.
• Oversee gasoline testing, blending operations, and fast‑track deployment of analytical methods, quality controls, and workflows.
• Manage laboratory projects such as the Jorf Lasfar Petroleum Products Lab and the Transformer Oils & OCM Testing Lab.
• Act as the ISO/IEC 17025 authority, handling method validation, equipment calibration, and best‑practice governance.
• Develop, review, and implement SOPs, analytical methods, and quality‑control procedures.
• Lead technical training and competency development for chemists and technicians.
• Support procurement, installation, and validation of new laboratory equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in oil & gas laboratory management, preferably within TIC companies.
• Proven experience with CFR engine operations, calibration, and blending processes.
• Hands‑on experience with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and laboratory project management.
• Fluency in English; French and Arabic are strong assets.

Required skills

• Petroleum product testing (gasoline, gasoil, fuel oil, marine distillates, lubricants, transformer oils, LNG/LPG).
• Operation of CFR Octane/Cetane engines.
• Analytical instrumentation: AAS, ICP‑OES, GC, UV‑Vis, HPLC, reformulyzer.
• Method validation, calibration, QA/QC, and data integrity.
• Familiarity with LIMS systems and laboratory instrumentation.
