Legal Counsel – International Programme Delivery

About the role

Save the Children International is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its global legal team. The role will support the organisation’s international programme delivery, providing strategic legal advice across 54 country offices and to global teams.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on legal risk and contractual matters for international programming operations across all regions.
• Provide guidance on procurement, programming, awards, finance and other corporate enquiries.
• Support global policy changes, transformation delivery, HR, partnerships, treasury and fundraising initiatives.
• Lead management of specific contractual and legal‑risk projects and relationships with designated global teams.
• Oversee aspects of the legal team such as pro‑bono law‑firm relationships and internal training.
• Mentor and, where required, line‑manage junior legal staff.
• Assist with complex commercial contracting, especially in transformation delivery and supply‑chain functions.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in international, non‑profit or humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multi‑jurisdictional legal issues and provide strategic advice.
• Experience managing contracts and legal‑risk projects of high value and complexity.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across diverse functions and regions.

Required skills

• Expertise in commercial contract law and governance for global organisations.
• Knowledge of procurement, finance, HR and fundraising legal frameworks.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior legal professionals.
