Post-Doctoral Fellow in Recycling Plastic Waste

About the role

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is seeking two Post-Doctoral Fellows for a collaborative project between its Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat-RC) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Under the supervision of Professor Youssef Habibi, the fellows will develop innovative recycling technologies for plastic waste through sustainable physical and/or chemical pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on polymer processing, recycling and characterization.
• Design, execute and analyze experiments using analytical, spectroscopic and microscopic techniques.
• Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team of chemists, polymer specialists and engineers.
• Maintain detailed experimental records and draft technical reports, research papers and conference presentations.
• Contribute to proposal writing and seek external funding.
• Supervise undergraduate, master's and doctoral students.
• Travel abroad for short-term work assignments as required.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related field.
• Proven postdoctoral research experience.
• Excellent English, spoken and written.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and collaborate in a team.

Required skills

• Hands-on expertise in polymer processing, synthesis and characterization.
• Strong background in material performance testing and reliability analysis.
• Proven ability to carry out multidisciplinary research and contribute to funded research programs.
