System Designer / Backend Developer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Backend or Full‑stack Developer who thinks like a systems designer. You will join a fully remote team building hausverwalter.ai, an AI‑first platform that automates tasks for German property‑management companies.

Key responsibilities

• Own the overall system design, including data modeling, state management, component communication, and load behavior.
• Design and implement the data layer from scratch: tables, relationships, indexing, and query optimization.
• Create reliable queues, background jobs, and long‑running workflows that handle heavy load and partial failures.
• Make early, hard‑to‑reverse design decisions and articulate trade‑offs.
• Develop and maintain the web application and contribute to architecture and product vision.
• Build robust pipelines for document and email processing and integrate third‑party services.
• Develop and optimise AI agents, extend the RAG/knowledge‑base system (embeddings, semantic search, reranking).
• Work in an AI‑first development setup powered by Claude, Cursor and Codex, and manage version control via GitHub.

Required profile

• Proven experience in backend or full‑stack development with a strong focus on system design.
• Comfortable creating schema diagrams, load assumptions and reasoning about data, scale and reliability.
• Interest in AI solutions and willingness to work on complex, data‑intensive problems.
• Self‑motivated remote worker eager to grow with the company long‑term.
