Terminal Supervisor

About the role

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for delivering safe, efficient and reliable terminal operations during a shift. Reporting to the Shift Manager, you will lead operational teams, optimise labour and equipment use, and champion a strong safety culture. This hands‑on role combines coaching, planning and execution on the ground.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and instruct operational teams to achieve safe and productive shift performance.
• Supervise ongoing terminal activities, staying visible and accessible at the vessel, yard or gate areas.
• Structure tasks, set priorities and organise resources to ensure efficient daily execution.
• Allocate staff and equipment under the Shift Manager’s direction to meet planned objectives and minimise quay crane idle time.
• Maintain discipline standards, escalating violations and providing coaching to develop team capability.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety policies, conduct process checks and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Business Administration or related field.
• At least 5 years of supervisory experience in container terminal operations or a similar environment.
• Strong understanding of container terminal processes, vessel cargo logistics, hazardous cargo handling and IMO regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with modern terminal planning and control systems.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Knowledge of hazardous and special cargo handling procedures.
